Add an authenticator app to your Google Account
Google's 2-Step Verification can use codes from an authenticator app. OTPilot can be that app: it saves the account from Google's setup page and fills the code when Google asks for it.
Set it up
- On a computer, go to your Google Account → Security → 2-Step Verification → Authenticator (myaccount.google.com/two-step-verification/authenticator).
- Click Set up authenticator.
- Google shows a QR code. OTPilot detects it and offers to save the account: click Add account. If the prompt doesn't appear, click Can't scan it? to see the key, then in OTPilot click + → 2FA code: paste the key, give it a name, enter accounts.google.com as the site, and click Save.
- Enter the current code from OTPilot to confirm.
Google notes it can take up to 7 days for the authenticator to show up as a sign-in option.
Questions
- Do I still need my phone?
- Not for the code: OTPilot generates it in your browser. Google may still offer its other 2-Step Verification options, like prompts on your phone.
